10 July 2009 – Aldington Primary School Prom

It’s quite a while since the band has played a programme with a Last Night of the Proms’ emphasis so we were all looking forward to the Aldington Primary School event.

Keith had chosen a programme to suit all tastes. The music ranged from Breezin’ Down Broadway through several solos and comedy items’ (who will forget Alan Bristow chasing around after his music stand during his solo as various members of the band moved it) and finished with several renditions of YMCA accompanied by the children performing all of the actions en mass (Paul Driscoll, band member and teacher at the school, had done a lot of work with the children in advance and was then unable to be at the concert through illness). This was followed by Fantasia on British Sea Songs and Pomp and Circumstance where the audience was able to join in with the traditional flag waving.

Many of the audience commented on how well the band played and the Head teacher’s remarks summed up the general feeling: ‘The evening surpassed all our expectations and went further as it supported the children’s musical development’. (Sandra MacCourt, Headteacher).

We are looking forward to a return visit sometime in the future….
